America Sweet Pea Seeds (Lathyrus odoratus)

The wild annual Sweet Pea, Lathyrus odoratus, was treasured in European and American gardens for its fragrance and vining habit since its introduction from Sicily in 1699. Two-hundred years later Sweet Peas were all the rage in "old fashioned" Colonial Revival gardens and many varieties were developed both in the U.S. and Britian. A striking red and white striped variety named 'America' was introduced by J. C. Vaughan and C. C. Morse & Co. in 1896.

Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last spring frost at 65°. Before sowing, scarify and pre-soak seeds for 24 hours. Transplant to individual pots, then harden off and plant outdoors after the last frost. Provide a support structure.

Approximately 15-20 seeds per packet.
