


Declaration of Independence Portable Desk
One of the most historical relics of the United States is the portable desk or writing box upon which Thomas Jefferson wrote his draft of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The original, designed by Jefferson himself, is currently on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
In collaboration with the Smithsonian, Monticello worked with Virginia craftsman Owen Suter to reproduce 100 desks. Like the original, it’s made in the U.S.A. of solid mahogany.
